essential oils for schizophrenia
Complementary and alternative treatments for schizophrenia OverviewSchizophrenia is a chronic brain disorder. It can cause many symptoms, including: Treatment usually includes antipsychotic medications. It may also include individual or collective therapy, psychoeducation and rehabilitation. Complementary and alternative treatments of medicine (CAM) are another option that people like to explore. The "complementary" and "alternative" terms are often used invariably. But these words really describe two different types of treatment. The term "complementary" refers to unconventional treatments used together with traditional treatments. An "alternative" treatment is when non-dominant approaches are used instead of traditional medicine. Medicine is important in schizophrenia management. Complementary treatments should not replace the care of a doctor. Talk to your doctor before using any CAM treatment to see if it is safe. According to the non-profit group, people with schizophrenia tend to have low blood levels of folic acid, or vitamin B9. Taking folic acid supplements can help reduce symptoms. A 2014 points out that other vitamins B, including vitamins B12 and B6, can also be useful. Several studies have used a combination of these vitamins. The research review also looked at some small studies suggesting vitamins C and E may be beneficial. But the review concluded that more research is needed. Some studies have linked vitamin D deficiency, especially early in life, with schizophrenia. It is unclear whether people who have already been diagnosed benefit from taking vitamins. Fish oil is a rich source of omega-3 fatty acids. These nutrients are known to reduce inflammation in your body. Inflammation can play a role in many mental illnesses, including schizophrenia. In a participation of 81 young people at high risk of schizophrenia, those who took fish oil supplements were less likely to develop the condition. The results are promising, but more research is needed. It is unclear whether fish oil supplements improve symptoms in people who have already been diagnosed with schizophrenia. But there may be other benefits. Improved heart health is one of them. For example, notes that people with schizophrenia have a higher risk of metabolic syndrome. This, in turn, increases the risk of heart disease. Some people may decide to test omega-3 fatty acids for the health benefits of the heart alone. Glicine is a protein building block, or an amino acid. It works with glutamine, which helps in brain function. Some have found that high doses of glycine can increase the effectiveness of antipsychotic drugs used to treat schizophrenia. But there are exceptions. Glyccillin can decrease the effectiveness of chlorzapine drug. Glyccina may also decrease negative symptoms of schizophrenia, such as flat effect or depression. More research needs to be done to determine the potential benefits of glycine. A gluten-free diet has been found to reduce schizophrenia symptoms in some. However, the benefits were only obtained in a specific subgroup of people. Gluten is a component of certain grains, especially wheat. on cetogenic diets has also shown promising results. A ketogenic diet is a high-fat diet, low in carbohydrates that also includes high-protein foods. But diet changes don't always make the difference for people with schizophrenia. More research is needed to determine whether there is a relationship between diet and schizophrenia. Always talk to your doctor before making important changes in your diet. A change in diet should not be used to replace the medication. If you have schizophrenia, complementary and alternative treatments can be an option for you. But it is important to talk to your doctor before trying new treatments. Natural vitamins and supplements may interfere with some medicines. Some alternative treatments are not based on solid evidence. They can also be dangerous. Be sure to ask your doctor about the safety of any new treatment you are considering.
